Chief Investment Officer (A)
Ms. Lorato Keseabetswe brings extensive experience in development finance, corporate finance, investment management, and consulting, with a proven track record across public and private investment environments. In her substantive role as Investment Principal at BDC, she has successfully originated and advanced investment transactions exceeding BWP1 billion, a significant achievement within the Botswana market.
Ms. Keseabetswe has also played a key role in executing strategic initiatives approved by the Board Investment Committee and the Main Board, including product and services development, credit pricing strategy, and investment divestment strategy formulation.
She has demonstrated strong leadership in cross-departmental collaboration, stakeholder engagement, portfolio oversight, and institutional representation, including participation in national and international development initiatives. Over the course of her tenure at BDC, she has overseen portfolios of up to 40 investee companies across diverse sectors and contributed to revenue optimisation and institutional performance during challenging economic periods.
Ms. Keseabetswe holds a Master’s in Commerce (Development Finance) from the University of Cape Town Graduate School of Business and a Bachelor of Business Science (Finance) from the same institution. She has also completed the Management Development Programme – Africa at Stellenbosch University and has completed coursework with the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), with charter pending. Her professional development includes training in corporate governance, financial modelling, credit risk management, and board participation. She currently serves on several boards, including Lobatse Clay Works, Western Industrial Estates, Botswana Hotel Development Company, and Mashatu Nature Reserve, and has previously held board or representative roles across investment, infrastructure, education, and sustainability-focused entities.
In the role of Acting Chief Investment Officer, Ms Keseabetswe will assume full responsibility for the investment function and provide strategic leadership to ensure continuity, sound governance, and achievement of BDC’s mandate.
